Why do a DBS?
Would you like a life-changing close encounter with God? The Discipleship Bible School is a chance to dig deep into the most exciting book on the planet! Amongst the pages of the Bible is a mix of sensational true stories, fascinating history, interesting characters, powerful teaching, and most incredibly, many words from the Maker of the Universe Himself. During the Discipleship Bible School, you will be reading through all 66 books of God’s Word, gaining an overall perspective of God’s story. You will learn techniques for effective Bible study, and a series of guest speakers will help unlock the Bible’s fascinating content.
Studying the Bible can be both fun and beneficial! Here’s what the apostle Paul said: “All scripture is inspired by God, and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.” (2 Timothy 3:16-17 NLT). God uses the Bible to reveal truth, to teach us and to prepare us for life as His representatives in the world. A good knowledge of God’s Word is so valuable for believers, no matter what their calling is. It’s an incredible privilege to have the Bible to study! The DBS is a great time to saturate yourself in God’s powerful and life-changing Word. Alongside Bible study, the DBS will also be engaging with God in times of worship and intercession, and partnering with God in sharing the Good News with the local community. There will also be an exciting opportunity to put learning into practice on an outreach, taking God’s Word to the nations!
Why Perth?
In 1985 Peter and Shirley Brownhill responded to the call of God upon their lives to pioneer a new Youth With A Mission (YWAM) centre in Perth, a city situated right on the Indian Ocean, on the west coast of Australia. The vision was to create a centre of training and ministry for the city of Perth and the nations beyond. Today, YWAM Perth is the largest inner-city YWAM campus in the world. We are situated in the heart of Perth and have a global mission. We are a multicultural, multigenerational community committed to Christ, the Great Commission and each other. We worship and serve, learn and grow, eat, pray and play together.
Our philosophy of training is “live-learn,” recognizing that learning doesn’t just take place in classroom lectures, but also through serving, living in community, one-on-one discipleship, small group discussions and more. Furthermore, every training course leads directly into related ministry opportunities, both in the context of YWAM Perth and further afield. Missions training doesn’t just involve facts and figures but real lives, real needs and real communities. In the DBS you will go beyond simply the theoretical and be practically equipped for ministry. You don’t need to wait to make a difference!

Originally from Texas, Mick and his wife, June, served on staff of YWAM Tyler where they completed their Crossroads DTS, School of Evangelism, School of the Bible and helped pioneer YWAM BELT. In 2001 they led a School of the Bible outreach to Papua New Guinea (PNG) where they lived for ten years pioneering Pacific SALT (Scripture Application & Leadership Training), a Wycliffe project that conducts vernacular Bible courses in remote locations for village pastors and church leaders. Mick serves as the Director of Scripture Engagement for SIL Pacific Area; and, at YWAM Perth, Mick and June lead the All Generations DTS. Their desire is to see individuals, communities and nations transformed by God’s Word. |
